Wood fireplace inserts are easy to purchase an install so that you can have your clean burning gas fireplace burning in no time. [19] They must have a connector between the appliance outlet and the first section of the flue liner. This sends the smoke and gases up and out of the chimney more directly, minimizing combustible deposits that condense in the fireplace.[20] Woodstove inserts have a wide range of styles available, with cast iron and porcelain being amongst some of the favorites, while there are even inserts that are able to be painted. Wood burning fireplace inserts are generally heavy with a weight of not less than 400 pounds and usually much more. Today, inserts need to be removed first before cleaning the chimney, which could be a bit of a challenge because of its bulkiness.[22] These units require far more planning. But convenience is not the only reason to use gas instead of wood.[23]
